June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month
Elder abuse is an intentional act or failure to act that causes or creates a risk of harm to an older adult. Common types of elder mistreatment include physical, sexual, emotional/ psychological, or financial abuse, neglect, or self-neglect. Elder abuse impacts people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds. Elder abuse can happen quietly but with knowledge, compassion, and action, we can bring it to light and help stop it. Local Elder Abuse Reporting and Resources
If you suspect an older adult or an adult with disabilities is in immediate danger, First call 911. Then contact:
Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC)
Call 1-844-880-1574 (available 24/7) to report suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults (older adults or adults with disabilities).
Ramsey County Adult Protection
You can reach out to the county’s social services to request an investigation or protective services. More information

OOLTC has access to interpreter services through the use of Language Line Solutions and will schedule services upon request.
The HouseCalls program provides direct financial assistance and support to prevent families in Ramsey County from becoming homeless due to safety and sanitation concerns.
HouseCalls services include financial assistance for:
Utility disconnection
Eviction assistance due to non-payment of rent
Sanitation condemnation
The first step is that staff determines eligibility for services and talks about the best way to stabilize the housing. When case management support will help solve the problem, HouseCalls staff have the experience and compassion to work with the household and identify the right resources to prevent the housing loss.

Learn about mental illnesses, the impact of negative attitudes and five things each of us can do to make Minnesota a better place for people who experience a mental illness. This one-hour class is for any community or organization interested in learning about mental illnesses and helping to change attitudes towards mental illnesses.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)
A 1.5-hour class to help individuals learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent a suicide. This class has been approved by the Board of Social Work to provide 1.5 CEUs upon completion and meets the continuing education requirement for teachers.
